Description
Turtle Caramel Cake is a rich and indulgent dessert inspired by the classic “turtle” candy combination of chocolate, caramel, and pecans. This cake is layered with deep chocolate flavor, gooey caramel filling, and topped with crunchy pecans, creating a decadent treat that feels like a bakery masterpiece.
Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 1 box German chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
For the Caramel Layer:
- 1 bag (11 oz) soft caramel candies
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
For the Filling:
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans
For the Topping:
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- Optional: chocolate drizzle
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Prepare cake batter according to package instructions using milk, eggs, and oil.
Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven.
While cake bakes, melt caramel candies with evaporated milk over low heat, stirring until smooth.
Pour melted caramel over the partially baked cake. Sprinkle chocolate chips and chopped pecans evenly over the top.
Carefully spread the remaining cake batter over the caramel and toppings.
Return to oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until cake is set.
Allow cake to cool slightly. Drizzle caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with additional pecans. Add chocolate drizzle if desired.
Notes
Be careful not to overbake the cake after adding caramel, as this can cause the caramel layer to harden too much instead of staying gooey.
