Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- 1 packet onion soup mix
- 1 can cream of chicken soup
Optional Additions
- 1/2 cup sour cream for extra creaminess
- Mushrooms or sliced onions
- Fresh parsley for garnish
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions
Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker with cooking spray or a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.
Place the chicken breasts or thighs evenly in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Sprinkle the onion soup mix evenly over the chicken, making sure all pieces are coated well.
Spread the cream of chicken soup evenly over the top of the chicken.
Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours until the chicken becomes tender and fully cooked.
Once cooked, gently stir the sauce to combine the flavors completely. If desired, shred the chicken slightly using two forks.
For extra creaminess, stir in sour cream during the final 10 minutes of cooking.
Serve warm with your favorite side dishes and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
Chicken thighs stay especially juicy in slow cooker recipes, but chicken breasts work beautifully as long as they are not overcooked.
Avoid lifting the lid too frequently while cooking because the slow cooker loses heat each time the lid is removed, which can increase cooking time.
