Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Chicken

Preheat your oven to 400°F.

Lightly grease a baking dish or casserole dish with cooking spray or olive oil.

Pat the chicken breasts dry using paper towels.

Using reliable cooking tools and premium cookware sets helps create evenly baked juicy chicken.

Step 2: Season the Chicken

Season both sides of the chicken with garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

The Mexican-inspired spices create bold savory flavor that blends perfectly with salsa verde and pepper jack cheese.

Fresh seasonings and organic food brands elevate the homemade flavor even more.

Step 3: Prepare the Salsa Verde Mixture

In a bowl, combine salsa verde, cream cheese, sour cream, garlic, and cilantro.

Mix until creamy and fully combined.

The creamy salsa verde sauce becomes rich and tangy while keeping the chicken moist during baking.

Durable cookware sets help maintain even baking temperature for creamy chicken casseroles.

Step 4: Assemble and Bake

Place the seasoned chicken into the prepared casserole dish.

Spread the salsa verde mixture evenly over the chicken.

Top with shredded pepper jack cheese.

Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F and the cheese becomes bubbly and golden.

For extra golden cheese, broil during the final 2 minutes.

Step 5: Finish and Serve

Allow the chicken to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Garnish with cilantro, avocado slices, jalapeños, or crushed tortilla chips if desired.

Serve warm while the cheese remains creamy and melted.

Notes

  • Pepper jack cheese melts best when freshly shredded.
  • Do not overcook the chicken or it may become dry.
  • Salsa verde keeps the chicken juicy during baking.
  • Durable cookware sets improve casserole baking consistency.
  • Store leftovers in airtight meal prep containers for up to 4 days.

Many home kitchen tips recommend letting baked chicken rest briefly before slicing to preserve juices.
