Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Step 2: Prepare the Peach Filling
In a large bowl, combine:
- Sliced peaches
- Granulated sugar
- Brown sugar
- Cornstarch
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Lemon juice
- Vanilla
- Salt
Mix gently until the peaches are evenly coated.
Pour into the prepared baking dish and dot the top with butter.
Step 3: Prepare the Cobbler Batter
In another bowl whisk together:
- Flour
- Sugar
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Cinnamon
Add:
- Melted butter
- Milk
- Vanilla
Mix until just combined.
Do not overmix.
Step 4: Assemble
Spoon the batter evenly over the peach filling.
Do not stir.
Leave a few small openings for the peach filling to bubble through while baking.
Step 5: Bake
Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling around the edges.
Step 6: Cool
Allow the cobbler to rest for 15 minutes before serving.
This allows the filling to thicken.
Step 7: Garnish
Top with:
- Vanilla ice cream
- Whipped cream
- Toasted pecans
- Cinnamon sugar
Step 8: Serve
Serve warm for the ultimate Southern dessert experience.
Notes
- Fresh ripe peaches provide the best flavor, but canned peaches work beautifully year-round.
- If using frozen peaches, thaw and drain excess liquid before baking.
- Don’t overmix the batter to keep the topping tender.
- Let the cobbler rest before serving so the filling thickens.
- Bake until the fruit is bubbling around the edges.
