🍑 Lazy Man Peach Cobbler

  • Author: iliass
  • Total Time: 1 hour

Description

Lazy Man Peach Cobbler is one of the easiest and most satisfying desserts you’ll ever make. This classic Southern recipe is famous for transforming a few simple pantry ingredients into a warm, comforting dessert that tastes like it took hours to prepare. Despite its humorous name, there’s nothing lazy about the flavor. Every spoonful delivers sweet, juicy peaches, a rich buttery crust, and a golden topping that perfectly complements the fruit beneath.

Ingredients

Scale

🍑 For the Cobbler

  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) sliced peaches in heavy syrup
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

Optional Flavor Enhancers

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract

Optional Toppings

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream
  • Caramel sauce
  • Powdered sugar
  • Fresh peach slices

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Baking Dish

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish, ensuring it covers the bottom evenly.

Do not stir after this step.

Step 2: Prepare the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine:

  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Baking powder
  • Salt

Whisk until combined.

Add milk and vanilla extract.

Mix until a smooth batter forms.

The batter should be pourable and free of lumps.

Step 3: Pour Batter into Baking Dish

Carefully pour the batter over the melted butter.

Do not mix the butter and batter together.

This layering technique helps create the cobbler’s signature texture during baking.

Step 4: Add the Peaches

Spoon the peaches evenly over the batter.

Pour part of the peach syrup over the top.

Avoid stirring.

As the cobbler bakes, the batter will rise around the peaches, creating a beautiful cobbler crust.

For additional flavor, sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over the peaches.

Step 5: Bake Until Golden

Bake for 45–55 minutes.

The cobbler is done when the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.

Allow it to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

This helps the filling thicken and improves texture.

Notes

  • Do not stir the layers after assembling.
  • The magic of cobbler happens during baking.
  • Use quality peaches for the best flavor.
  • If using fresh peaches, add extra sugar if needed.
  • Allow the cobbler to rest before serving.
