Description

These gingerbread crinkle cookies are soft, chewy, and packed with warm holiday spices. Rolled in powdered sugar before baking, they come out with beautiful crinkles, a festive look, and irresistible flavor. Perfect for Christmas gatherings or cozy winter nights!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tsp ground ginger

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ tsp ground cloves

  • ½ tsp nutmeg

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed

  • ⅓ cup molasses

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ cup granulated sugar (for rolling)

  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

1. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.

2. Cream Butter & Sugar
In a large bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla; mix well.

3. Combine & Chill
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet. Mix until dough forms. Chill for at least 1 hour (this helps with the crinkle effect).

4. Shape & Coat
Scoop 1-inch dough balls. Roll first in granulated sugar, then in powdered sugar.

5. Bake
Place on lined baking sheet, bake at 350°F (175°C) for 9–11 minutes. Cookies should be set at edges but soft in the center.

6. Cool & Enjoy
Let cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack. Dust with extra powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Chill the dough for at least 1 hour (or overnight) to achieve the best crinkle effect.

Roll generously in powdered sugar—this is what gives the cookies their snowy, festive look.

Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days at room temperature or freeze for up to 2 months

For a twist, add a pinch of black pepper for extra warmth or dip in white chocolate for a holiday finish
